At SASU・ICHI you are immersed in steep-sided forests, soothed by the sounds of the Sasama river, and sharing the garden with songbirds, dragonflies and green tree frogs. You are most definitely still in Japan but it is as if you have stepped into a different world.

In addition to maintaining contact with the rhythms of nature, nostalgia can be an important counterweight to the globalization of modern life. Preserving the best of Japan’s old traditions while incorporating new innovations brings balance, and learning about the past can impart deeper meaning to the present. Life in our village is changing, but many customs still remain and we work to keep them alive.
